St. Marks from the Flats

8 x 10
I just keep painting this lighthouse. Why is it that people like paintings of lighthouses? They are symbols we say. They steer us in the right path. This one is particularly difficult to paint sometimes because of the large live oak tree beside it. I'd like to see some old photos of this place when the live oak tree was tiny. Or was it there before the lighthouse? Anyone know?

Steve, My father was a Keeper in a lighthouse in WWII in New Caledonia in the South Pacific. We have many replicas of Lighthouses in our homes to remember him by. His eulogy was all about him being a "Keeper" but really he was someone who watched out for his family. Thanks for letting us see the painting. Wonderful.

Thanks for the comment. I just did a google earth search for New Caledonia and was blown away. Since you only get a limited amount of time on this earth that sure looks like a beautiful place to spend it. I hope he was able to enjoy the circumstances.
